Making an Impact: Operation Underground Railroad
November 22nd, 2021 by admin

This past weekend we had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) Annual Gala and charity fundraiser. We were awe-inspired by the personal stories and trials of sex-trafficking survivors and impressed with all the efforts and resources being put into play to make a difference. O.U.R is working with many other charities and other organizations to help more and more survivors every year, and we hope we can draw a bit more attention and awareness towards their cause.
Around the world there are vast numbers of people caught in modern-day slavery or human trafficking, which includes anything from domestic servitude, sex trafficking, forced labor, bonded labor, child labor, forced marriage, or even organ trafficking.
Operation Underground Railroad is an organization created to “rescue children from sex trafficking and sexual exploitation”. They work closely with government authorities to make sure proper steps are followed throughout the process up through arrest and conviction, they research and plan out rescue operations, and providing aid afterward to help children recover from traumatic experiences.
Norm Chambers, co-founder of Equinox IT Services said: “In some ways we see the world getting worse every year, and it is our job to make things better. It's up to each of us to be a light and to fight the dark, the bad, the trash, and the evil everywhere we see it. One of the ways we help is by contributing to O.U.R. They fight to rescue children, stop the cycle of human trafficking and educate people in how they can make a difference”.
The more research that I had conducted in this topic, I was astonished about the statistics and even the stories that are happening in our own “backyard”. Human trafficking is fueled by many factors including: (1) high reward compared to the low risk (lack of prosecution or legal action in many cases) and (2) increasing demand to supply people (many are children) for commercial sex.
